Don't stress or worry over losing weight. Do it as You choose, at Your pace -- and if You don't quite succeed in achieving Your desired goal don't let it discourage You. Good men will see You for who You are, and catty women who want to throw snide comments aren't worth anyone's time.
Some of the most beautiful ladies inside and out that I've ever known were very lovable, sweet and kind --- and just a lil' bit on the chubby side.
Folks need to remember. Everybody's body and looks fade with time, but a beautiful, loving heart lasts forever.
Justin, thank you for saying this. Your words are so kind and understanding, and you're right. We all get older and change dramatically, but that doesn't affect who we are on the inside. π
I feel this! In the last 6 months, I've gained back a lot of the weight i lost about a year ago...who knows why well, besides me running less (thanks bursitis in my left leg the last 2-3 months), winter, eating less healthy, mid-life...can I blame my Graves disease? (Hyperthyroidism). No? I will anyway...perimenopause..SIGH I was doing SO WELL and then... now I'm not lol. I got myself a new (larger size) pair of running shorts for when it gets warm enough to wear them and hopefully get bacl to running more/longer/farther again
I hear ya, lady!!! Hypothyroidism was the beginning for me, several years ago. I thought I gained weight because I quit smoking but turns out it was thyroid. Now, im positive it's hormones and bullshit π€£
Add a fractured femur in 2023 and giving up on De-Flaming diet and increasing IBS flare ups. Iβm there. Sixty five this year and embracing life with the pound cake body. Waiting desperately for summer.
Great post and new section! Yes, coexisting with it! (not sure a gratifying scale reading is in the cards anymore, even though I teach fitness, yoga and work out! maybe my 'gratifying' scale reading is unrealistic at this age/hormones/etc) I agree with you: I want good health for longevity (and health span), and peace. I try to ignore scale, aches, etc and focus on ability and try to be positive about it (how many people live in my mind?!). Ok, off to my dance class! (see? fun and able!)
Ahh I love that you're off to dance class! I've been thinking about looking for some kind of salsa class where you don't have to have a partner lol.
I forgot you teach yoga, that's amazing. I'm finding such peace in Yin and Hatha that I almost want to go further! But I'll just settle for my own benefits.
Oh my can I relate! Since winter I have stopped doing daily walks but this year I feel like taking up pilates because the machines look easy on the joints but I haven't made it out to a class yet. The thought of getting dressed to look presentable in public holds me back. π. The goal is to stay upright and mobile. So many aches and pains and waking up all ours of the night. Don't know when I last had a good nights sleep!!!!!
Elle, I totally hear you. Especially on the part where you don't sleep properly because of body aches and pains. Only a few weeks ago I had resigned myself to being the person who will probably pass away in her sleep this year because there has just been SO much wrong lol.
If you will let me recommend something that has actually changed my life in the past two weeks.....it is YIN YOGA. I know...sounds foo-foo. Everyone raves about yoga. Well, now it's my turn.
There's a lady on YouTube who only teaches Yin (yin is the easiest one, holding easy poses for longer periods). Her channel is Devi Daly Yoga and she has hundreds of videos. If you want to sleep better and wake up not feeling like a truck ran you over, try it for two weeks. I swear to you, it is changing my life.
About pilates OUTSIDE the home...I'm with you. I really want to go try out this new place in my community but not yet. I don't want to spend the money just yet (nor do I want to look presentable π)
Thanks for the Yoga rec. I'm going to screenshot this to put in my phone notes so i can remember it when on my iPad. I have been resisting yoga!!! I don't really know why. My SIL tried to get me to do it. She even sent me a mat and a foam thing two Christmases ago as a gift. I chucked it all in a closet but I'll dig it all out and give it a try!!! i do want to stay strong. I am very fearful of losing mobility and needing a walker or wheelchair.
OMG girl....just try it before you get the wheelchair π I used to hate the act of STARTING, but after forcing myself a couple of times, I felt so accomplished and peaceful at the end. And you'll be surprised how it changes your posture without even trying.
Pull out that mat and get on the tube! There is a yoga routine for literally every ailment. Even when my knee was blown out, I found chair yoga lol. There is really no excuse.
Man-o-man and gosh gee willikers ! I am the embodiment of this post. π
Between the migraines, the spinal covering that usually acts like a leaky dike and no one has enough fingers to plug the dam, throw in a few odd ball symptoms like brain sag, weight gain, inability to be upright, and poof: suddenly 40 pounds slapped on pretty much evenly distributed.
I had to give a double pinky swear to: never ride a roller coaster (that was an easy one since Iβve never liked them), never do yoga, move extremely slowly if and when I ever bend over, to avoid reaching overhead and torso twisting, and not lift more than ten pounds for the remainder of my life.
I could be the poster child for the group of older than middle aged women!
I speak with my MD next week (if telehealth is still covered) about gentle strength training of small muscle groups like upper arms or calves and fingers crossed, hope that Iβll get the green light to try some. Once the migraine like response to the latest surgery calms down, Iβm allowed to go walking.
Does Tai Chi walking really burn fat? (Asking for a friend)
Ooooh Teyani, I'm so sorry you're struggling with your health so much. Aging SUCKS!!! But what I will say is that yes, I'm positive you can find micro-targeted workouts that would be okay for you.
I remember when I blew out my knee a few years ago how rapidly my muscles in that leg atrophied just from lack of use. It was mind-blowing how quickly it turned to mush. I really had to work that leg and joint, starting from ground zero, by pulling it with a rubber band into a bent position. I had to be so patient with my progress. It took me TWO YEARS to crouch down and pick something up.
Regarding Tai Chi, I have no idea about the benefits of it, never tried it. But I bet you'll also find that on YouTube. Everything is on there and it's free!
I was blessed with good genes and had a high metabolism for a while. No more. All my favorite ice cream gathers into my midsection, and it doesn't want to melt away.
Ok confession time. I have way less hair on my legs but whatβs there gets long. When I can see it with my glasses on I oust it with my electric razor which by the way I use on my chinπ€ fast easy and smooth as a babyπ€ͺπI love this feature too. Weβre sort of syncing at the moment. Iβm doing a 12 month series of small Brenβs Bites with one tip per month to feel and live healthier. Cheers! P.S. Iβm having a moment at the moment so Iβll get back to you soon about that guest post.βοΈ
I love the sound of your monthly tip to feel and live better! Same vibes, totally. Itβs always great to share if you find even one small reason that makes getting out of bed worthwhile ππ
Kristi, this sounds like youβre getting after it while keeping an healthy and balanced perspective on the totality of circumstances! Outstanding!
One thing I may suggest, without getting too much into the weeds, is eliminating seed/vegetable oils from the diet. Very hard to do, though, because they sneak them into almost all of the processed foods we buy.
Yes it IS almost impossible unless I want to start milling my own flour and baking bread lol. Most everything I'm cooking now is from scratch, using healthy oils. But it's hard finding simple things such as wraps, etc that dont have some kind of canola or other crappy oil.
Youβre already on top of it, thatβs excellent! I do my best, but the hard part is finding compromises with what everyone else in the house wants to eat!
Okay yah...that is what I did in my video, is show my standing desk adapter. I'm at a stage where I HAVE to put it up and down multiple times a day now, or else my neck and shoulders get paralyzed lol. Marching on the spot while I edit client work is a nice break.

Sorry that should say HYPER thyroidism!! Lol I'll edit. I know you can gain weight with hypo...
Iβm so here for this, HRT in tow, sciatica at bayβ¦letβs boogie!
I tried HRT and it didn't do shit for me so I'm going au naturel now. Sucks so bad.
It took a good 2 years of tweaking. I might have it right now. Weβll see soon.

You should take salsa! And yay yoga!
BTW, the title of this post is hilarious!!!!!!!π π π π π π π π
LOL isn't it though?!! I couldn't resist ππ

Full body atrophy! Iβm the kind who usually chooses the go big or go home rout π
LOL well at least you're maintaining some sense of humor about it.
I was blessed with good genes and had a high metabolism for a while. No more. All my favorite ice cream gathers into my midsection, and it doesn't want to melt away.
Stupid ice cream. How dare it not magically melt away on its own!!
Seen!!!
Spot on! My body has moved to another dimension. I don't even grow hair on my legs anymore! I guess that's a good thing.
Love your new feature.

Oh wow, I'd love to say that i don't grow leg hair anymore lol. And chin hair π€£π€£
Ugh. The chin. I keep tweezers in my purse.
πππ Remind me not to sip tea while reading your comments.

WTF-ness is it!!
And funny Iβm on the same sort of βletβs get back to some level of fitness, pleaseβ too.
All the sitting doesnβt help but Iβm trying to figure out ways to combat that and still get stuff done. β
I made a video of how im combating it. I have a whole desk setup now lol. I'll share it on YouTube soon and send you the link.
Ooh nice I wanna see!! And ummmm I do have a standing desk but I always forget to activate it. Iβve got to get in that habit. π―

You diagnosed my same problems!
Lol its better than self-diagnosis on Google. Most those results lead to death π€£
So true!
