Never heard of this documentary until your post, Kristi, and they have it on Netflix in Jamaica so I'm watching it right now! Holy moly! My palms were sweating when I first started watching them lol 🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈🙈🙈
Right!!!! It is NUTS 😳😳 I mean, don't you think their luck/skill needs to run its course and call.it quits?? I'm always scared thinking about them lol.
If you decide to visit the Zion National Park in Utah, and decide to take the more "scenic byway", I pity you! It's called the Mt. Carmel Highway. It must be Utah's skinniest road. Just writing about it makes me nauseated. No guardrails, sheer cliffs, drop-offs, and lots of twists and turns. The road, eventually, leads to the glorious Bryce Canyon National Park.
If you want to take a scenic drive, on your way out, there are plenty of options that won't terrify you! Also, Zion National Park has multiple deaths every single year because people think they can conquer Angel's Landing.
In my own neighborhood, there is Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon. It used to have the "steepest tram in the world". You could go to the top and go to events there. Alas, it had to close because it became too dangerous.
You can keep your feet on solid ground and still enjoy the Falls! It feels wonderful to have cold water flowing around your feet.
Oh wow, that sounds riveting! It also sounds like regular mountain roads in Jamaica lol. I was terrified every single time had to drive 3 inches from a cliff with no guardrails.
Otherwise, what you have described sounds beautiful! Fingers crossed I can make it there someday!
Almost any horror movie. I will complain and tell the characters they're stupid and grumble loudly until the hub has given it up entirely, solely because I don't like to be scared!
I watched the replay of the guy climbing the skyscraper in Singapore (I think) and had the same physical reaction you did. My palms were sweating, my whole body tensed up, and I had to look away a few times, even though I already knew he made it with no problems. It’s crazy.
Hi Kristi et al. I’ve called in to a few of your informative Substack tutorials which I have greatly appreciated. Meanwhile, I thought I’d mention that my son (Zachary Barr) and his colleagues have produced another documentary about one of the most famous free solo climbers / base jumpers entitled The Dark Wizard currently airing on HBO MAX. It’s a 4 part series that exposes many of the psychological factors that influence these extreme athletes. It’s mystifyingly engaging. You might like it.
Ooooh now that sounds like something I’d watch! I am fascinated by the psychology and mindset a person needs to do this type of stuff. I’m writing that down right now and will look for it on the weekend!
That would be a nope on a rope, ma'am. LOL I don't do heights and therefore do not plan to watch any of these. I hope the couple gets released, though, because that would really suck since he proposed to her and they end up in jail for years.
Good grief. Just watching your links made me want to reach for the edge of my chair! It brought back memories of something from a couple decades back of some guy who would go to edges of cliffs and pile up all sorts of things (a ladder, then a chair, then another chair, etc, all sorts of balancing going on), then he’d do all these elaborate balancing moves on top of what looked very precarious, his legs oftentimes leaning out over abysses. I don’t remember who he was, but your article just brought all of his stunts flooding back into my mind-thanks, Kristi! 🤪
David’s comment reminds me of reading Into Thin Air,” “Into the Wild,” and listening to the podcast about the plane crash in the Andes in 1972. All 3 of those stories of extreme limits, and people died in each, although in the first and last in my list of three there were also some survivors. That’s my jam- I read (and sometimes watch) true stories of people in extreme circumstances who survive. Now others are starting to pop into my head…
I love a good push the boundaries story, although I prefer those where people are placed there and they figure it out, rather than doing it intentionally, although I can see the excitement there, sort of a living VR experience. It reminds me of that young instagram woman (I can’t remember her name, I never followed her) who fell from some building while doing one of these types of stunts. Ok, I’ll stop now.
That's the part I worry about most is one of these two falling!!! Thoughts of that keep me up at night lol. I don't know where these super-humans get their bravery, that's for sure.
I'm not familiar with the chair balancer you've mentioned but I can imagine it also is nauseating!
I have to wonder what Sir Edmund Hillary would have thought of them making a climb akin to his ascent of Mount Everest without safety equipment. ("They're bloody insane!", perhaps...).
Looool same here! Anything that keeps me.on the edge of my seat is anxiety inducing. I don't know why I even bother watching but also...it's almost like I have to! 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 You watch these things but you're not an adrenaline seeker??? 🤔 While so much adrenaline swirls around your body it makes you feel sick 😂. Maybe you need to do some star jumps while you watch and use up some of that. I can't watch anything like that. No horror films, thrillers, murders. Nope! When I have in the past it haunts me for months. Day and night. 🙈

I am a chicken.

🤣🤣 I can totally picture you yelling at your TV! And rightfully so!

It's nuts, isnt it?? Like, we know they aren't dead because they're starring in the videos lol. Gives me the total creeps.

Lolo Cee, I fully understand!! 🤣
And just so you know, they did get released but face multiple charges. I'm sure they'll be deported and told to never come back.
Haven’t seen that, but I recently watched The Dark Wizard, which sounds similar.
Ah yes, another person in the comments also mentioned that one! I'm totally going to look for it.
I get dizzy when I wear thick socks.
🤣🤣 Or tie shoelaces!

Agreed. I found the guy: Eskil Ronningsbakken. If you want to lose your breakfast, here you go: (I don't know if this link will work)
Eskil balancing on chairs on YouTube
Omg that's a hard no 🤣 I found it.
I've been to the Seattle Space Needle (on the INSIDE of the rails) and in the top of the Gateway Arch, and even those were almost too much for me.
Lol I know, right!!! I've gone up the CN tower in Toronto (also on the inside) and that was definitely too much for my stomach 🤣
I have to wonder what Sir Edmund Hillary would have thought of them making a climb akin to his ascent of Mount Everest without safety equipment. ("They're bloody insane!", perhaps...).
Perhaps!! I also think it is bloody insane!
Sounds too stressful for me to watch! I could feel my adrenaline and cortisol spike just reading your account of watching!
Lol this!!!!! I legit dreamt about it the other night and then tossed and turned all night. It is nuts!
Ok first of all, absolutely not.
Second, The Walking Dead stressed me out continuously but I was hooked. LOL

Karen, I feel like I should probably stop watching these kinds of things and just go all Mary Poppins 😁 I bet it affects me more than I even realize.
Can't imagine you being all Mary Poppins 😆
Totally agree!
